Pledge & Prayer: We thank you Bob who lead us in the pledge and thank you to Fr Rick who gave us a wonderful
blessing.

Announcements:
 Please keep Warren in our prayers. Warren may have a match!!! We will keep you updated.
 Golf Outing update: It was a great day! While it rained and thundered in the afternoon, the support was wonderful.
Thank you everyone who helped!!
 Bob Nathan updated us on the Gift of Life. Our club gave the second biggest contribution to Gif of Life. Great Job
Club of Islip Rotary!! The Rotary Foundation has given $3 million to the Gift of Life already. Next up- We will be
taking care of a Kosovo young girl and Bob, among others, are taking her on a ferry trip to Connecticut. Bob will share
more information on that.
 Fishing Trip status: Joe Perino will give us more information on having a fishing trip from Captree.
 Fellowship to Fire Island: Karen Sobel will provide more information on this fellowship – last year was a lot of fun.
 Assembly update: Tony held his first Assembly meeting as president and did an outstanding job! Some of the highlights
are:
 John Chinnici is the Rotary Foundation chairperson and will give us future updates.
 Karen Sobel will continually update us on Haiti and other grant projects .
 Tom Lawler will help us to coordinate a “Teddy Bear Project.” That is we make up 100 teddy bears with the Islip
Rotary logo and the local fire exchange ambulances will give out these little bears to children that are injured or
otherwise need them. Bob is willing to also coordinate press releases so people better understand what Rotary does,
more specifically what our club does for the local community as well as internationally.
 Bob is our Membership Chairperson and he was adding that we need to do more press releases for our activities and also
more business networking within our own club. This may attract other business owners. Additionally, Bob asked us all
that everyone should try to bring someone to one of our meetings to introduce others to meetings and to Rotary.
 Russ is still the Speaker Chairperson. It is a difficult task and we ask that if you know anyone who is interesting as a
speaker, please talk to Russ. Cheryl is also going to see about the Rotary district speaker’s bureau that may help us to
fill in the speaker gaps. We will call upon our own members to provide information about their businesses so if you
wish to do a presentation, please speak to Russ. We look forward to hearing from everyone.
 An idea about changing things up for “Happy Dollars” is to ask anyone who wishes to say they are happy about
something going on in their business to promote it. This may encourage more networking for new members. We are
looking to help people to promote their own business. HOWEVER, our first priority is to promote the Rotary way-
Service Above Self.”
 Karen Moss is the School Supply Chair (also the Thanksgiving basket and Christmas Chairperson). She will be
providing more information about the Target store match supplies incentive. If we buy supplies, Traget will match the
supplies for our local schools. We have $750 set aside for this project so with Target’s help we can donate $1500 of
school supplies. And John Chinnici knows a guy who knows a guy to get us discounts on backpacks. Sounds good to
me ;-) -In lieu of a Thursday meeting at the Irish Coffee Pub we may be meeting at the Amvets to put the
backpacks together.
 Also we spoke of not having regular weekly Thursday meetings but rather members can make up time in helping with
Rotary events. Many members are increasingly having more difficulty getting out of the office and spending money for
weekly lunches when they could better serve the club in helping with a certain event or two. – something to think about.
 The Coat Drive will be headed by Ryan again and we would also ask for children’s coats. A primary school is Central
Islip who really needs them.
 The Sutton agency has computers that they may be able to donate to underprivileged schools and students. Jim and
Ryan – THANK YOU as always.
 The Community Service Dinner will be headed by James who will forward more information.
 The next Golf Outing will be at Willow Creek and we will share the work and glory with another club which seemed to
work out very well this past year. Kevin will provide for details at a later time.
 Ryan has asked for our help in gathering children’s gently used or new clothes, (and for new in the package kid’s
underwear). He is collecting them for children in Haiti, please bring them to our next meeting.
 GREAT JOB TONY!!! With your leadership we will make this a great Rotary year!
 Thank you Sue Z and Ryan for helping with the wine and golf ball tickets and happy dollars as Dennis was working.
Special Guests: We welcomed Phyllis’s long term boyfriend, husband Nat, as well as her two close friends
from Florida, Phyllis and her husband, Stu. Also we welcomed Dick Bornstein from the Huntington Club.
