available at the door, please make checks to The Friends of Islip Rotary.
 Golf outing update: we have about 20 sponsors – we could use a few more - if you know anyone who would like to
make a donation for a great cause. Please see Kevin for more information.
 Bob Nathan announced that the first annual Amvets car show was a great success. The weather was beautiful and they
made money! If you join Amvets (for only a $35 dues) a child or grandchild can become eligible for an Amvets
scholarship and you automatically qualify for a death and disability insurance policy.
 Lynda wanted to thank everyone for helping with extra donations for the Concert on the Park. The Islip Arts Council
needed additional funds and Rotarians stepped up to the plate yet again. Nice job!!

forward to helping him make it a very merry Rotary year ;-) He will have his first board meeting the week of July 10th.

Guest Speakers: Sharon Brenner from the Texting Awareness Foundation, a not-for-profit organization.
Sharon recently started working for her son who has teenagers and who began the educational foundation after seeing there was a need.
Every day there are between 11 to 15 young people are involved in auto accidents related to texting or distraction while driving. The days
between Memorial Day and Labor Day are the deadliest motor vehicle days of the year. The Texting Awareness Foundation works with
schools, businesses and in malls to bring awareness of the dangers of texting while driving to young and more experienced drivers who may
take it for granted that they can’t be distracted. The penalty for texting while driving is $150 and 3 to 5 points on your license so it is a pretty
serious issue. Some states even have “texting areas” like rest stops. Please feel free to visit their website and view educational on line
videos.
It was an interesting program!!
Log on textingawareness.org for more information. Thank you Sharon, you did a great job!!!!
