Collected $91 > - the kitty is over $700.
Guest Speakers: Jon Tan is a retired NYPD lieutenant and a former Bronx District Attorney. Jon was Tony’s supervisor in the
Police Commissioner's office and is an expert on police disciplinary matters, among other topics.
Jon gave us an insight about discipline within the ranks of the NYPD. Discipline complaints went directly to then
Commissioner, Ray Kelly. The Patrol guide has over 2000 pages and police officers are expected to know most everything
within it. They had two levels of discipline, Formal (charges of misconduct) and Informal (stayed at the command level).
Police have a very tough job and today they face new dangers from protestors. Tony gave us a small example of a disciplinary
case where a policewoman called in sick and was supposed to be at home. Unfortunately she was arrested in Atlantic City for a
minor incident that grew into more trouble because she was supposed to be home sick. Jon recommends the book “Island of
Evil” about the days when Teddy Roosevelt was the police chief of NYC.
Thank you very much Jon. You did a great job!!
