Our general meeting was called to order at 12:15 by President Ryan.  Kathy Cooney, lead us with the Pledge of Allegiance & Father Rick faithfully inspired us with prayer.

HAPPY DOLLARS were collected by Sergeant-At-Arms, Clay Hart, who is sooooooooo adorable in his red vest!!!.....thank you!!

 

EVERYONE WAS HAPPY TO BE AT THE MEETING, HAPPY FOR OUR SPEAKER, JIM SUTTON AND TO HAVE FATHER RICK'S BRIDE AS OUR GUEST.....In addition,

 

Kathy Cooney was happy for our "Old Queens", Dennis & Tom and was very amused by their shopping trip story!!!!

Keving Fitzpatrick was happy that his daughter, Kayla returned safely from her trip to El Salvador!!

Rick Hollborn was happy that he celebrated another wedding anniversary!!

Steve LaRosa was happy about the magnificent weather and that the Mets have been playing well?!

Karen Moss was happy to be able to spending time with grandchildren, now 11 & 13!!

 

Gary Rosenfeld...well he was just happy!!!

Jason Terhune was happy that he was able to tear himself away from work to be at the meeting today!!!  Us too Jason, it was great to see you!!

Announcements – Matters of Importance

 

UPDATE ON WARREN GOERCKE......Let's continue to keep him in our thoughts & prayers.

 

Tom Licari and Dennis Ciano returned from RYLA Summer Camp in Maine....said it was a wonderful experience....while there, they acted as chaperones, counselors, cooks, oh and let's not forget....two old queens!!  They told a very funny story about shopping for tableclothes and centerpieces, what a riot!! 

FYI....Mark your calenders, DG Gwen Ramage-Wons will be attending our Sept. 5th meeting....please try to be present.

Remember.....Our Sergeant-at-Arms will be imposing $1.00 fines for various infractions at meetings such as tardiness, ringing phones, etc. All in good fun, fees collected go to the club's fund!!

School Supply Donation Collection is ongoing.....our goal is to top last year(over 7000 items + cash donations)....now is the time to take advantage of the current sales.....C'mon Islip Rotarians, let's get shopping!!! Contact Cheryl and/or Karen Moss for add'l info!

The Chamber of Commerce is holding a Halloween Fundraiser and is selling raffle tickets-you need not be present at the event in order to win!!! Ask Steve LaRosa for add'l info!

 

REMINDER....Next week(8/22) is bring a friend to Rotary Day....Bob Nathan will be doing a presentation on Gift Of Life....what better way to introduce someone to Rotary!!

....Community service event on October 18th-A Costume Party!!  Details still being worked out!

Just a sampling of what's being discussed.....Ryan is open to suggestions, if anyone has an idea, he'd be happy to hear about it.

It's going to be a busy and exciting year......be sure to keep an eye on "Upcoming Events" section for all that's going on!!

 

Program Director, Russ Moran mentioned that if anyone has any ideas for guest speakers, DO NOT BOOK the speaker without speaking to Russ before-hand!!

Today’s Guest Speaker..... Our own, Jim Sutton discussing Hurricane Preparedness.....he's been in the insurance business for 35 years....he talked about how much things have changed over the last 50 years.....for instance, the tremendous growth in population, weather patterns and probably most significant to Long Islanders.......the reluctance/refusal of Insurance Carriers to insure our homes because of the risk factor?!!!  He did provide some helpful literature(attached) and stressed how important it is to keep an up to date list of your belongings and photos of same.  This will expedite things when/if you should ever have to make an insurance claim.  Thanks Jim....a very interesting/informative presentation!!

Golf Ball Raffle......Jim Sutton held the winning ticket, but was unable to pick the YELLOW ball...instead he got a white one which read "BLUE", hmmmmmmmmmmmm, I'm pleading the 5th, lol!!! Emoji

: $132.00....the pot continues to grow and is now up to $803.00!

 

HAPPY DOLLARS COLLECTED: $41.00 + $2.00 for the fine imposed against Fred Billings because he was in the building, but not at the meeting?!  Wow, don't let Clay's boyish looks fool you, he's pretty tough!!!

 

 

UPCOMING EVENTS

8/20/13 - Fellowship Event at Island Mermaid, Fire Island, 7pm.....pre-dinner get together @ Karen Sobel's home....directions -After leaving ferry in Ocean Beach, just turn right (west) on Bay Walk where all the shops are and continue through town to the block after Maguire's Restaurant. Turn left at Ocean Rd (you will see the Pantry grocery store on right). Our house is about 6 houses south on the right #152 Ocean Rd. A special thanks to James and Dianne for organizing this event and Karen for volunteering her home!!!

8/24/13 - Macy's Shop for a Cause Event/Fundraiser - $5.00 per coupon......it entitles you to a 25% storewide discount (very few exclusions) that day only....great for back to school shopping??! 100% of each ticket sold belongs to rotary!!

8/24/13 - Pindar Winery - Bring some food, buy some wine and have a great time dancing to the music and just chillin out, 1-5pm.....can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon....contact Bob Nathan for add'l information!

TBD - Book Club Meeting - Phyllis said their last meeting was wonderful and she encourages more people to join in!!

9/18/13 - Rotary Club Outing/Fundraiser - NY Mets Game - Tickets are $25. and for each ticket sold Rotary gets $2. back! See attached flyer for add'l details and/or speak to Ryan!
