Our general meeting was called to order at 12:15 by President Ryan.  Father Rick, lead us in the Pledge of Allegiance & Pastor Mike Staneck faithfully inspired us with prayer.

Our guests included: Bob Nathan's fellow tennis player, Frank Randell/Kerry and Jack for the Marketing Dept @ Southside Hospital and lastly, our speaker, Dr. Vijay Singh, a Cardiologist at Southside Hospital.....thank you all for joining us!

 

HAPPY DOLLARS were collected by Clay Hart, and yes, he wore his red vest!!!

 

EVERYONE WAS HAPPY TO BE AT THE MEETING, HAPPY ABOUT THE WONDERFUL WEATHER WE'VE BEEN HAVING AND HAPPY TO WELCOME OUR GUESTS.  In addition......

 

Father Rick was happy about the fact that he is still wearing sandals, lol!!!

Ryan Gillies was happy that the NY Mets were able to pull out a win the night before and about Clay in his red vest, looking like Ernie from Sesame Street!!

Bob Nathan was happy about participating in an upcoming major tennis tournament!!!  He's such a fierce competitor....we wish him luck!!

Pastor Mike was happy that the Trinity Lutheran Golf Outing went so well!!

 

Karen Sobel and Jason Terhune were happy to have attended the NY Mets' game the night before....said it was phenominal especially since they were able to win in such dramatic fashion...a bottom of the ninth comeback, how exciting!!

Some sad dollars......Jason made us aware that one of the victims in the recent Washington D.C. shooting was a fellow rotarian, a member of the Lexington Park Rotary Club and felt it was only appropriate to recognize him.....Lynda expressed her sorrow for Noel S. Ruiz, Executive Director of the CM Performing Arts Center, who passed suddenly.  Our condolences to all!!

 

Announcements – Matters of Importance

UPDATE ON WARREN GOERCKE......He is still unable to be in mixed company due to his immune system being so weak....Warren has chosen what's called consolidated chemotherapy rather than undergo a very complicated surgery.  He is expecting/hoping to return to Rotary by late October.  We'll certainly look forward to that, but in the meantime, let's continue to keep him in our thoughts & prayers!!!  Thanks to Bob Nathan for this update!!

School Supply Donation Collection has concluded....thanks to all those who helped out/contributed!

 

The NY Mets Fellowship Event/Fundraiser was lots of fun and it also made some money for our club.  Thanks to all who attended/bought tickets!!!

Tickets for the fundraising event to benefit the Mondays @ Racine Cancer Care Foundation on Monday, 10/7 are SOLD OUT!!...however, if anyone is interested in making a donation, please ontact Rachel!!!

GIFT OF LIFE Fundraiser - JUMP FOR LIFE on Sept. 28!!! I will be one of the daring jumpers(crazy is probably a better word, lol?!) It's something I've always wanted to do, so thought why not do it for this terrific cause. Would gladly welcome and appreciate any supporters/sponsors!! WARNING...You may see a grown woman cry Emoji

 It's going to be a busy and exciting year......be sure to keep an eye on "Upcoming Events" section for all that's going on!!

Program Director, Russ Moran mentioned that if anyone has any ideas for guest speakers, DO NOT BOOK the speaker without speaking to Russ before-hand!!

Today’s Guest Speaker.....Dr. Vijay Singh, a Cardiologoist @ Southside Hospital....discussed how Southside became a part of the North Shore - LIJ Health System approx 2 1/2 years ago and the fact that they offer top rated Cardiovascular and Cardiothorasic services....feels their patient care surpasses many other hospitals....this is accomplished thru teamwork/collaboration.....meetings are held every single day so that each patient's individualized needs can be discussed and proper measures can be taken.  BIG NEWS....they will begin offering FREE Lung Cancer Screenings in November to those who meet the established criteria....this is the first program of its kind....WOW!  Our thanks to Dr. Singh for taking time from his busy day to come visit us.

11/1/2013 - AMVETS Fundraiser @ Eagle Golf, Bay Shore, 6pm...tickets are $25ea....Bob Nathan says, "It's the best $25 you'll ever spend"....they could really use our support!!
