  • The Interact Club – students have organized their Bowling Fundraiser on MARCH 5th (9 -11 pm) East Islip Lanes, only $20 in advance or $22 at the door. Call Karen Volkmann 631-902-6942 for tickets.  Also on MARCH 18th the Interact is hosting the 2ond Interact RISE Workshop at the American Legion Hall 39 Nassau Ave Islip (9 am-1pm). The Interact clubs are filled with future Rotarians in the making.  We look forward to working with them this year.
  • AppleBee’s Rotary & Interact breakfast:  We had held this event before with great success. The breakfast is early Sunday morning (either APRIL 10th or 24th).  It is a fundraiser event with Rotarians and Interact students helping to serve pancake dishes – breakfast tickets are $10 or $15 each. We split the proceeds with the Interact students for each our own causes. The students are wonderful and all support is appreciated.  More information to follow.
  • April Rotary Breakfast: we are still working on the details, not at the Pub, but local. More to follow.
  • Community Service Dinner is MAY 13th and we are honoring our own Tom Jones- more information will follow. Congratulations to Tom!!   Clay’s band is performing – can’t wait!!
  • Spring Fellowship – we will have more information about having a breakfast.
  • Homeless Veterans are helped - Bob gave us an update that several homeless Veterans sleeping in the woods near the Northport VA have been assisted. Good news is good to hear ;-)
  • The Early Childhood Literacy Events went well. Thanks to Cheryl and her daughter Rotarians were able to introduce themselves and see the smile on these precious children.  Next we are coordinating our reading to students with the East Islip School in the Spring.  More information to follow.
  • Gift of Life – The next board meeting is in January.  If you can attend any of these Gift of Life board meetings, it really can give you a better insight into what Rotary is doing to help children around the world.  Next meeting starts at 7 pm is in March 2016  at 7 Court House Dr Central Islip New York 11722, and every third Wednesday two months out, then March 2016.
  • Membership – We could always use more members.  If you can bring a friend to lunch or tell someone about Rotary, we may be able to increase our membership.  “Many hands make light work.”
  • Foundation Update-  John Chinnici is asking if our members can consider having from their checking accounts automatic withdrawals of only $10 per month to the Rotary International Foundation that helps support our common causes.  If every member donates $100 per year, our club will not only be recognized for 100% member contributions but the Foundation also helps us with grants so we can expand our local and foreign good works of charity.
You can log onto MYROTARY.org and easily set up your automatic donations.
  • Islip Arts Council – visit their home http://islipartscouncil.org  to see the great programs they are working on.  See what Fall and Winter events are around the corner!
  • Thank you Ted for helping with the wine tickets.

Special Guests:  We welcomed our guests Bob’s wife, Florence as well as a fellow Ronkonkoma member, Helen. Also joining us was Ashley and Holly, Islip Interact students.  And we welcomed Laurie Nink who made her third meeting and will be inducted this week as our newest member. Guest Speaker:  Interact Students Ashley & Holly

Ashley and Holly told us of the positive benefits of joining the interact club. Building confidence and meeting new friends is only a part of the benefits they received. They spoke at the Rotary District Conference which enabled them to also meet contacts and learn the value of networking. Ashley and Holly spoke about the Rotary Literacy Program that our Rotarians were apart of in reading books to young students.
Ashley and Holly thanked us for the opportunity they enjoyed with RYLA and were proud to say that this upcoming year they will both be RYLA leaders at RYLA camp.  They did a great job!!

Also speaking was Father Rick who mentioned the benefits of hosting three Gift of Life children. He recalled attending the Appliance World Gift of Life Event where Winsome & Audley heard of the Gift of Life program and soon became Rotary members. Pam Greene heard of the program and also joined Rotary. Father Rick remembered the expression of the little boy’s mother who saw her son run for the first time after his heart surgery – the moment was priceless.

Gift of Life brings out the love of children throughout the world!
