10-10-13 –Guest Speakers:
Tony D’Amico, our Town of Islip Deputy Commissioner of Safety and Emergency Manager gave us an insight to the damage of Sandy as well as our recovery status. October 29 2012 Sandy changed Long Island forever. Tony and his team plan for the worst and prays for the best. Two people in Islip died as a result of Sandy which affected 24 states. NY Rising (631-595-3501) is still helping people raise their home.
There was $49 million worth of damages to Islip Town alone. $29 million was structural and $20 was Dunnes and breach damages. East Islip Marina and Atlantique Beach have been successfully restored while other areas are still being worked on. Under the Public assistance Program 90% was paid from FEMA and 10% from taxpayers, although Federal reimbursements may still be possible.
GREAT JOB TONY!!! – very interesting.
